WebJan 10, 2008 · Tru-Oil is nothing but an oil modified alkyd varnish. As such, it is easily thinned with mineral spirits or paint thinner. VM&P Naphtha works just as well and evaporates faster than mineral spirits which makes it my preference for sprayed finishes. Tru-Oil used to come in an aerosol can, but I haven't seen that way in many years.
