NV3500 is the light/medium duty trans, good for about 300 lb-ft. 1st gear is pretty deep for car use and you'd kill it with a big block. The heavy duty one used in the diesel pickups is the NV4500 and it's got an even deeper 1st gear, somewhere around 6:1 IIRC.
