If you are in a distress situation, use the expired flares first; save the "good" ones. Consider approved alternatives to pyrotechnics such as a distress light and other non-pyro. Remember, there are limitations to any distress signal. The DEEP Boating Division is NO LONGER able to collect expired marine flares, but does arrange disposal opportunities from time to time.
